BRAND STORY
ROHVE the label has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager. Design and fashion have been my passion for even longer - from drawing clothes in questionable art mediums to sewing cushions for my dolls out of whatever scraps of fabric my mum would let me have. Sewing is in my blood, passed down from my Nonna through my aunties and now to me.
I took textiles classes in high school and later studied patternmaking and garment construction at university in Melbourne. I thought I’d learned everything I needed to know - but it wasn’t until I started making clothes for myself after university that I realised how much there still was to learn. Without teachers to lean on, I taught myself everything I now know through trial, error and passion. I’ve turned what was once a creative hobby into real, lived knowledge.
Over the years, my personal values, lifestyle and design style have evolved and that evolution has shaped the way I work. I’ve lived abroad, grown up, and grown into someone who holds her values close. In the years before covid, I transitioned to a plant-based lifestyle and I’ve never looked back. That decision changed more than just the way I eat it made me think deeply about the materials I use. Sustainability is at the core of what I do. I do all I can to avoid harming animals or the planet. I realised I no longer felt right sewing with fabrics that harm the planet, rely on plastics, or involve toxic production processes. That’s why I use organic cotton for linings, and fabrics such as 100% linen for garments. As this business grows, I’m committed to exploring more responsible, low-impact fabrics because fashion can exist without causing so much harm. I also believe that the most sustainable fabrics are the ones that already exist, so in the future I hope to introduce more and more deadstock fabrics into my collections.
ROHVE garments aren’t designed for trends or single seasons. They’re made to be worn, loved, lived in and hopefully, passed down. That’s something I’ve always treasured about the clothes I’ve inherited from my mum. That kind of longevity is almost impossible with today’s fast fashion, which is mass-produced, poorly made and not built to last.
As I do everything myself from design and patternmaking to sewing and packaging - ROHVE is deeply personal. Since it’s just me, I can take it with me wherever I go. While the brand might not always be based in Melbourne, it will always carry a Melbourne heart. I currently live between Melbourne and England, and one day ROHVE the label might be based out of the UK - that’s still something I’m figuring out.
This is my story.
Welcome to ROHVE the label.
